Organizational constellations can help you gain insight into (disturbed) team dynamics, the influence of team members in this, and your own role as coach of the team. Normally you do this “live” or physically with people who act as representatives for team members, customers, other teams or for more abstract matters such as organizational goals.
In these times of Corona, live setups may not be desirable. That is why we started with a virtual form of team constellations. This with the help of Zoom and Miro (but these can of course just as well be other tools). You can then work with different shapes and figures (or avatars) as representatives, instead of with people.
Within organizational constellations you work mainly on the basis of the subconscious mind, intuition and feeling. We were afraid that this would work less well virtually, but nothing could be further from the truth!
In one of the sessions, agile coach Wouter presented a challenge. Team members of a newly composed team still mainly focus on their “old” teams. He finds that there is still insufficient mutual trust.
Via Miro, Wouter visualized the team situation, including himself. He and others then (objectively) named what they noticed, about the distances between the representatives, who is close to whom, who is looking at where.
That gave Wouter the insight that he liked himself a lot tribes (the department) focuses too little on the newly composed team. Based on this insight, it was clear to him what to do.
I would like to share with you what you can do as an agile coach or scrum master for a successful, virtual team formation:
We will discuss organizational constellations in block 5 of our training “NLP for Agile Coaches”. Our experience is that virtual constellations contribute just as well to gaining new insights and finding answers. As long as you let your intuition and your hands do the work by feeling!
