PRINCE2 course participant Fleur: “Such an internationally recognized certification says something about your willingness to really sink your teeth into something.”

Fleur KuijPer is team lead at de Rabobank and accustomed to working agile. Nevertheless, she wanted to master a different project management method. She completed PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner at lagant. Fleur: "I enjoy the transition from theory to practice; that is where you grow the most as a professional."

I am currently working on a number of projects within my role. We are used to working in an agile way, but I actually wanted to get to grips with a different methodology as well. This way, I can see if this is something I want to do in the long term. I also had some budget left over, so I thought: this is a nice training course to take.

I always consciously choose a training course that awards an internationally recognized certificate. I find that important. It is a personal thing, though, because not everyone values that. A course is nice, but such an internationally recognized certification says something about your motivation. And also about your willingness to really sink your teeth into something. That makes a big difference to me.”

I consciously choose a training course with an internationally recognized certificate.

Translating it into practice makes it valuable.

By the way, I didn't want to be alone Foundation to do it, but also become a Practitioner right away. After all, when I learn theory, I want to know how to apply it in practice. I enjoy the transition from theory to practice; that is where you grow the most as a professional.

Jeroen made that translation very valuable to me. Thanks to his own experiences and examples, the material really came to life. You can just tell that he knows what he's talking about and isn't just reciting it from a book.

Sometimes I ran into questions from the book where I thought: 'Huh, but it says so right there, doesn't it?' Jeroen calmly addresses that with you, very understanding and knowledgeable. He patiently explains how you should look at it, that practice is often different from what you learn from a book. I feel like I have already learned a lot from it.”

Only do it if it yields results

One of the core principles of PRINCE2 really appeals to me: you only do something if it actually yields results. We are often busy with peripheral matters or we don't finish things. Or—and this is a good one—we just keep going 'simply because we started it'.

PRINCE2 is much tighter in the game. You do something, and you keep testing the business justification. If at any point it turns out that something isn't profitable, you pull the plug. I think that's very good.”
Actually, that is exactly what we do in our private lives as well. We like working with to-do lists and we want to do everything at once, but ultimately it comes down to the same thing. You make a choice to put a lot of energy and time into something, and then the question is: what am I actually doing that for? Do I want that? And is it worth it to me?
We live in a society where we want, can, and have to do so much. Precisely then, it is good to take a moment to reflect, prioritize, and ask yourself: does it make me a richer person? That is the yardstick for me.

“That is what I find most beautiful about taking a training course: you always come out richer than when you went in.”

Growing as a person

What I find very important is that my backpack is a little fuller after such a training. For me, a training is about much more than just the content. It is about developing your perspective and broadening your own scope. And actually, it is also simply about growing as a person. That is what I find most beautiful about taking a training: you always come out richer than when you went in.
