Glimpses of the future

Wanting to change the world in a big and compelling way is of course very nice. But it can also put you in a freeze mode. What should I do then? That is why at Lagant we pay attention to the small things. An example of this is the can campaign of CEO Jeroen.

Strong together for the Food Bank

It is actually too bizarre for words. That in a rich country like the Netherlands there are people who do not have enough money to buy enough food. CEO Jeroen always donated his own empty bottles to charity. You should also know one thing about Jeroen: he works every day to build a better world.

“Something in me wants to save the world,” Jeroen says, somewhat sheepishly. “That can be quite annoying for others sometimes, I know!”

At Lagant we naturally give a lot of training. Participants like to drink a can of soda during their break. Those cans end up in the trash 9 times out of 10. “What a waste,” Jeroen thought a few times. A second thing that is characteristic of Jeroen is that he has a deep aversion to waste.

With all those cans we are throwing away valuable raw materials

When Jeroen also reads that the number of people who are dependent on the Food Bank has doubled, turns on his change guide mode. You can return cans, then they get a second life. Those cans also yield a deposit. You can donate that amount of the cans to the Food Bank…

👉 Cans x the Food Bank = take action! 🫶

From this day on, all cans at Lagant will be neatly collected. Also at parties, Christmas drinks and other social occasions, 'De Blikjesbak' is displayed in the corner. Every now and then Jeroen goes to the supermarket with a gigantic bale of cans to exchange them for a deposit.

Something very small becomes big by itself

You may be thinking: those cans are nice, but do you really think you are making a difference with them? The answer is yes. Change is also in the small things. If we all do our own little bit, we automatically create a wave movement. Call it the butterfly effect or 'good deeds reward good', it doesn't matter.

We need this earth. We need each other. Let's take care of it. In the big and the small things.

Just a sobering side note…

Or actually a tip. If you have to queue behind Jeroen at the supermarket with his bizarre stack of cans:

💡 Just come back another time!

We have already collected almost €400 worth of cans. Do you know how many cans that is?! Uh yes, exactly: 400:0,15= 2666,66 cans. 😅 #tomorrowisanotherday

Or take it really easy (I.e.

Just bring your cans and empty bottles to Lagant! Jeroen will stand in line especially for you. And you, together with us, contribute to a world where people do have enough to eat.
